I'm not sure what happened.<br />
<br />
But a contest is definitely motivating! When I read <a href="http://www.stitchedincolor.com/">Rachel</a>'s post about a <a href="http://www.stitchedincolor.com/2016/03/the-bluebird-sew-off.html">Bluebird Fabric Sew Off</a>, I knew exactly what I wanted to make, and made it a priority to sew at least a little bit every day. It's been a happy week of sewing, and I finished my project last night.<br />

I started with Camille Roskelley's <a href="http://thimbleblossoms.bigcartel.com/product/mini-dwell-pdf-pattern-171">Mini Dwell</a> pattern, and used some new Cotton + Steel fabrics (Bluebird!) along with some I've had for awhile. These tiny houses were so much fun to make! I modified the pattern a little to make some houses without pinwheels or doors, to really show off the Bluebird fabric. Then I arranged them in a long narrow row, and added borders to make a pillow using a pillow form I already had. So cute!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-k7QmtkfVK4E/VhpmQOfo_7I/AAAAAAAADp8/uWBZf1Kba78/s1600/IMG_8704.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-k7QmtkfVK4E/VhpmQOfo_7I/AAAAAAAADp8/uWBZf1Kba78/s400/IMG_8704.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Last winter when I was in NYC for my cousin's wedding, I made sure to make time for a little shopping at Purl Soho. Such a beautiful place, and so much fun to shop there!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One pattern that I came home with was this <a href="http://www.purlsoho.com/vegetable-patch-mini-quilt-pattern-1.html">Vegetable Patch Quilt</a>:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gPg87M8dXxI/VhpmRBeaTJI/AAAAAAAADqI/jqHZ6Blj7w4/s1600/IMG_8705.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gPg87M8dXxI/VhpmRBeaTJI/AAAAAAAADqI/jqHZ6Blj7w4/s400/IMG_8705.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did the appliqué on my old Elna 3007, using a short zig zag stitch. I matched colors for the veggies but used a variegated thread on the green tops, which I love. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
In retrospect, I think it would have been better with a shorter "dirt" section and a taller "sky" section, but I made the quilt entirely out of fabrics from my stash -- and I didn't have very much of this loopy blue fabric! So the proportions of dirt and sky are different than the pattern suggests. I think next time I'll try the sky and dirt fabrics with Kona solids and the leaves and veggies with patterned prints. This is one of those fun patterns that I'll definitely make again!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I have a jar of 2 inch scraps that I fill up all year, and then in the summer we get it out and start designing a quilt. This year we had a really hard time deciding what to make -- but eventually I came up with a design that we were all happy with. I started thinking about how to make it work on a car trip home from my parents' house, then got out the graph paper and started coloring. And here's what we came up with:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QgqYfO2Nkxw/VipBxf5AIzI/AAAAAAAADr0/VpNz2iIyGUY/s1600/IMG_8906.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QgqYfO2Nkxw/VipBxf5AIzI/AAAAAAAADr0/VpNz2iIyGUY/s400/IMG_8906.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8iszKIDmeWw/VipBoZyMtLI/AAAAAAAADrM/wFn9-BCbLoA/s1600/IMG_8893.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8iszKIDmeWw/VipBoZyMtLI/AAAAAAAADrM/wFn9-BCbLoA/s400/IMG_8893.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

<u>Quilt Stats</u>:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Made entirely from 2 inch scraps, with the exception of the Barn's Pinwheel Quilt, the Sheep's Background, and top of Silo -- over 3000 two inch scraps, yikes!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Double Bed Sized -- perfect for my sheep loving daughter's bedroom</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Quilted with Aurofil thread (size 28, light gray) in a diagonal cross-hatch pattern, with extra diagonal lines added for the sheep's wool.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Binding is scrappy and matches the green grass/blue sky, using <a href="http://aquilterstable.blogspot.com/2012/06/about-that-binding.html">Debbie's Matched Binding Tutorial</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

It was a great weekend to take some photos of my latest finished quilt -- here's a sneak peek. I plan to enter this one into the <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/2015/10/09/bloggers-quilt-festival-countdown-3/">Fall Blogger's Quilt Festival</a> next week. More pictures to come!<br />

I recently decided to dig into my stash of beloved fabrics (mostly Anna Maria Horner) and USE THEM! So I started with these cute little houses -- pattern at <a href="http://stitcherydickerydoc.com/">stitcherydickerydoc.com</a>. I'm not sure yet if these two blocks are headed into a pillow or a larger quilt . . . I think a bed quilt made from rows of houses would be so pretty!</div>

Today I'm posting photos of the types of items that I plan to have for sale at the No Coast 2015 Holiday Craft-o-rama, if I'm selected. I had so much fun at last winter's No Coast Holiday Craft-o-rama that I'd really love to be there again!</div>

It's time for the <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/blog/">Spring Bloggers Quilt Festival</a>!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here is my entry into the <a href="http://amyscreativeside.com/2015/05/15/spring-2015-bloggers-quilt-festival-large-quilts/">Large Quilts</a> Category:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ciAJyDVHDO8/VVXzCstHbOI/AAAAAAAADl8/dMyzg7pbqC4/s1600/IMG_8429.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ciAJyDVHDO8/VVXzCstHbOI/AAAAAAAADl8/dMyzg7pbqC4/s640/IMG_8429.jpg" width="361" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AY4REhdBQsg/VVYCbRHa2aI/AAAAAAAADmg/tTdRZOUcwdc/s1600/IMG_8207.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AY4REhdBQsg/VVYCbRHa2aI/AAAAAAAADmg/tTdRZOUcwdc/s320/IMG_8207.JPG" width="320" /></a><span style="text-align: left;">These Cotton and Steel Tiger Stripes might be my favorite fabrics EVER -- I couldn't wait to make a quilt using all the different colors of cats. And now it's available in black and white . . . </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NKYH_lruYzg/VVXzCGxe6OI/AAAAAAAADl4/frDlyHTHSmw/s1600/IMG_8369.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NKYH_lruYzg/VVXzCGxe6OI/AAAAAAAADl4/frDlyHTHSmw/s400/IMG_8369.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I recently discovered that our ping pong table is perfect for basting quilts. For the quilt below, I actually moved my sewing machine there, too. What a perfect setup for quilting -- I'd quilt a few rows, then mark a few more rows with my Hera Marker, quilt some more, etc. Really nice!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had the most lovely day today!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I finished up two quilts featuring artist <a href="http://www.cindylindgren.blogspot.com/">Cindy Lindgren's fabric</a>, and delivered them to <a href="http://www.thelindentreeshop.com/">The Linden Tree</a> shop for Cindy's fabric launch party tomorrow night. If you're anywhere near Minneapolis, you should really check it out -- Thursday April 30, 6-8pm at <a href="http://www.thelindentreeshop.com/">The Linden Tree</a>. So much fun!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The pink crib sized quilt features an Uptown panel, and is an easy log cabin style quilt. Definitely a quilt top that you could make in a day. I quilted this one with random diagonal lines. The blue/lime green "star inside a star" quilt features Cindy's Minneapolis City of Lakes fabrics, and is also fairly easy to sew, since it's just 4 large blocks with lots of negative space. This one measures about 64 inches square. I quilted this one fairly densely with straight lines -- I just love the texture this creates!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I fell in love with Cindy's fabrics a couple of weeks ago, and immediately had a couple of quilt designs come to mind. I'm in the process of writing up patterns for both of these quilts -- so if you're interested in pattern testing, please send me an email to let me know! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cindy's fabric is available at <a href="http://www.thelindentreeshop.com/">The Linden Tree</a> and also online at <a href="http://www.modernyardage.com/">Modern Yardage</a>. In addition to her Minneapolis themed fabrics, she also has a variety of different fabric lines and printed artwork. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ok, so the cats have started taking over my "Millions of Cats" quilt.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Every time I think about working on it, there is a cat sleeping on top of it.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Enough!!!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's time to get it basted. And quilted. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And tomorrow's the day.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(wish me luck)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RId3OZUKoJA/VTB4X9PxhfI/AAAAAAAADig/lvQYkbe5S7Q/s1600/IMG_8279.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RId3OZUKoJA/VTB4X9PxhfI/AAAAAAAADig/lvQYkbe5S7Q/s1600/IMG_8279.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I actually added one row on each side of the quilt after I took this photo -- it just looked like it wasn't quite finished. And since I had enough fabric, I figured I should make it a little larger. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A good decision -- I like it even better now.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are a couple more cat photos --</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
my girls thought these were particularly funny (9 year old humor, I guess)!</div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
This is what I've come up with for my next do. Good Stitches block -- a block made up of 25 bright solids squares, bordered in gray:</div>
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nbtl1A47WhY/VRcn46li3oI/AAAAAAAADiI/SQqRtWY_Pdw/s1600/IMG_8272.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nbtl1A47WhY/VRcn46li3oI/AAAAAAAADiI/SQqRtWY_Pdw/s1600/IMG_8272.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Start with a pile of solid scraps.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cut them up into squares that are somewhere between 2 and 3 inches in size. You'll need 25.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
They don't need to be perfect squares -- rectangles or rhomboids are ok too -- it's improv!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i5hDxlCZ8i0/VRcnt6p66_I/AAAAAAAADhg/ONGD8Co9H9I/s1600/IMG_8255.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i5hDxlCZ8i0/VRcnt6p66_I/AAAAAAAADhg/ONGD8Co9H9I/s1600/IMG_8255.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
Start sewing the squares together into strips of 5 squares each. <br />
Press seams of top row to the right, 2nd row to the left, 3rd row to the right, etc.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y8U1ZvPuaCc/VRcntgw2RyI/AAAAAAAADhc/HVw3hjst0Gk/s1600/IMG_8261.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y8U1ZvPuaCc/VRcntgw2RyI/AAAAAAAADhc/HVw3hjst0Gk/s1600/IMG_8261.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sew strips together.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's ok if some of the seams are kind of curvy. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
None of the seams should line up. Nice!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gyg6FYG8A_Q/VRcnrqSoY6I/AAAAAAAADhU/ylDXNNW0UxE/s1600/IMG_8262.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Gyg6FYG8A_Q/VRcnrqSoY6I/AAAAAAAADhU/ylDXNNW0UxE/s1600/IMG_8262.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
Trim the block so that it measures between 10 and 10.5 inches square.<br />
A little larger or smaller is just fine, though!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-d1Dfe3KJlMc/VRcn0ZI7HOI/AAAAAAAADhs/kA05BlfI0zM/s1600/IMG_8266.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-d1Dfe3KJlMc/VRcn0ZI7HOI/AAAAAAAADhs/kA05BlfI0zM/s1600/IMG_8266.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
Finally, add the border.<br />
Gray solid strips somewhere between 3 and 4 inches should work well.<br />
Trim block to 13 inches square.<br />
(Look at your block and think "darn it, how did I not notice those 3 red squares all in a row!")<br />

Done!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This week I've made progress on a quilt! I'm calling this one "Millions of Cats" after this cute book we own. I just love these Cotton + Steel cat fabrics! The free tutorial for this quilt is <a href="https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B5shkCRirc5SWmdubGlibDhiaXc/edit?pli=1">here</a>.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also whipped up a couple of rabbit pillows for Easter. My girls requested similar pillows for their rooms (but had very definite thoughts on what color the rabbits should be -- "pink, not white!"), so these are now for sale at a lovely local shop called <a href="http://www.thehighwaynorth.com/">The Highway North</a>.</div>

</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
I had this crazy idea a few years ago to apply to be a vendor at the <a href="http://www.nocoastcraft.com/">No Coast Holiday Craft-O-Rama</a>. But then I got scared. I told myself that I just sew for fun, and have no idea how to run a sale.</div>
</div>
<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<img alt="nocoastcraft.com.jpg" src="webkit-fake-url://CE4F8DDD-EE64-43F8-8688-C70E198C125D/nocoastcraft.com.jpg" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;" /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then, in the summer of 2013, I decided to look online for how to apply, and quickly realized that I had missed the deadline by 2 days. So I promised myself that I would apply in 2014, no matter what! </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was surprised (and frankly, terrified!) to learn that I had been accepted. I had so much to learn, having never done anything like this before -- luckily the sponsors had lots of information for us "new vendors." The biggest challenge for me was trying to figure out how much to bring to the sale (how many things did I need to sew?) and how to price my items. I did a lot of research on <a href="http://www.etsy.com/">Etsy</a>, and snooped at another craft sale in November. But it was tricky -- since no one really had a booth exactly like mine. </div>

(Items sold: 2 Art Totes, 4 <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/cityhousestudio">"Read" Library Tote Bags</a>, 2 throw sized quilts, 1 baby quilt, 1 twin sized quilt, 4 iPad covers, several stuffed animal sleeping bags, 5 purses/totes, several stocking ornaments, 1 Christmas bunting, 4 Reindeer Pillows, 1 Love pillow, 3 large patchwork pillows, and 16 Minnesota pillows!)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vaDe-VyzkVE/VKVxH3K9cMI/AAAAAAAADec/jDC-A-tcNFc/s1600/IMG_8024.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vaDe-VyzkVE/VKVxH3K9cMI/AAAAAAAADec/jDC-A-tcNFc/s1600/IMG_8024.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This Minnesota Pillow was such a hit. The idea came to me a few weeks before the sale, and I had made them in a variety of colors and fabrics. This one with the brown bark MN and twiggy background went the fastest, just as my husband predicted (his favorite item)!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B8vfrd2gzWE/VKVxn0VYS0I/AAAAAAAADe0/qOg6ltBf1ek/s1600/IMG_8020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-B8vfrd2gzWE/VKVxn0VYS0I/AAAAAAAADe0/qOg6ltBf1ek/s1600/IMG_8020.JPG" height="278" width="400" /></a></div>
I had several MN pillows still in progress at home at the start of the sale, so Friday evening I came home from the sale and made 6 more pillows to take in on Saturday morning (not that I'd recommend sewing late at night after a craft sale -- but all 6 sold the next morning)!<br />
<br />
Overall, I'm so glad that I took a risk and applied to participate in this sale. It was really lovely to have so many people (even those who didn't buy anything) tell me how beautiful my items were, how much they loved my quilts, pillows, tote bags, etc. Wow! I had so much help from my friends and family, and I think everyone really had fun at the sale. I was surprised at how much fun my daughters had "helping" out at the sale -- I thought for sure that they'd be bored (they're only 9!) -- but they can't wait for my next sale! </div>

This quilt was a gift for my mom, and she loved it! It's Camille Roskelley's Vintage Holiday pattern, but without the borders -- just wide Kona snow sashing, and a scrappy binding. I quilted it in diagonal lines at 60 degrees, about 3 inches apart. This is the second time I've used this quilt pattern, and I'd definitely recommend it -- those ornament blocks come together so quickly!<br />

Good Stitches quilt</a> finish for the year -- that makes 3!<br />
I asked the members of the <a href="https://www.flickr.com/groups/1841261@N22/discuss/72157648132774646/">Peace Circle</a> to make blocks using <a href="http://mermag.blogspot.com/2011/11/quilt-how-to.html">this tutorial</a>, with gray backgrounds and bright or dark colored cats. I think they had fun with it. One stitcher even added bright ears to her black cat!<br />

I quilted this in a 45 degree diagonal cross-hatch, then bound it in black with small pops of bright solids. I had a lot of fun with this quilt -- I just love being a quilter in do. Good Stitches!<br />

<br />
It was Reindeer wednesday at my studio this week!<br />
The pattern is called "<a href="http://freshlypieced.bigcartel.com/product/fair-isle-christmas-quilt-pattern-pdf-version">Fair Isle Christmas Quilt</a>" by <a href="http://freshlypieced.com/">Lee of Freshly Pieced</a> -- a gorgeous, Nordic-inspired quilt pattern. Love it! <br />
<br />
For now, though, these Reindeer are destined to become pillows. I've been experimenting with quilting them, and finished one up this morning. I've been using this 60 degree diagonal straight line quilting a lot lately -- what do you think?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R3WK80XTQDo/VG9ZGXzpA3I/AAAAAAAADbc/dRrxRPv0RLw/s1600/IMG_7888.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R3WK80XTQDo/VG9ZGXzpA3I/AAAAAAAADbc/dRrxRPv0RLw/s1600/IMG_7888.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I used 2 different colors of Kona red, alternating, to enhance the "pixelated" quality of the pattern. I cheated a little though -- on some of the longer stretches of red, I didn't use 1.5 inch strips, I did a little quilty math and used wider strips so that I'd have fewer seams to match. It definitely sped up the process!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LXTq2Swmftk/VG9ZIH77L0I/AAAAAAAADb0/Xa2y_XIT9VU/s1600/IMG_7891.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LXTq2Swmftk/VG9ZIH77L0I/AAAAAAAADb0/Xa2y_XIT9VU/s1600/IMG_7891.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
For the back I added a concealed zipper, red binding, and one of my labels.<br />
The print is a Pottery Barn sheet -- a few years ago I cut one up to make curtains, and had a little leftover. So now the pillow looks at home in our reading loft, and the back matches the curtains. Hurray!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HqaLenzoJZQ/VG9ZGTFbsCI/AAAAAAAADbg/O1wpJF5vr_w/s1600/IMG_7887.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-HqaLenzoJZQ/VG9ZGTFbsCI/AAAAAAAADbg/O1wpJF5vr_w/s1600/IMG_7887.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
The other 3 reindeer (& maybe even some brown deer with red noses!) will be available at my booth at the <a href="http://nocoastcraft.com/">No Coast Holiday Craft-o-Rama</a> on Dec 5th & 6th.<br />

With the snow and cold weather that has suddenly hit Minnesota, my outdoor photo shoots need to be short and sweet. So this post is going to be short and sweet, too!</div>

<span style="color: #222222; font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: medium;">I love this quilt!</span><br />

It measures 54 x 70. It's hard to see it from these photos, but I free motion quilted it in a meandering loopy design, in gray thread. I'm planning to have this quilt for sale at my booth at the upcoming <a href="http://nocoastcraft.com/">No Coast Holiday Craftorama</a> in Minneapolis next month. <span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"> I managed to snap a few pictures of this quilt right after we raked the yard, but before the snow fell. My front yard now looks completely different!</span></div>

It's a large 9-patch block set on the diagonal. Easy to make, and looks more complicated than it is. It came together quickly! I looked at the pattern again recently, and remembered how fun and easy it was to make. Here's the quilt I made in 2012:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EuYyCslUdRI/VGOLWqFredI/AAAAAAAADZ8/5Db4NVD4VuY/s1600/IMG_5150.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="398" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EuYyCslUdRI/VGOLWqFredI/AAAAAAAADZ8/5Db4NVD4VuY/s400/IMG_5150.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And here are some blocks that I made yesterday:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zIVxlsfWa7U/VGOLhnXl-XI/AAAAAAAADaI/-qMWflgdZdw/s1600/IMG_7833.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-zIVxlsfWa7U/VGOLhnXl-XI/AAAAAAAADaI/-qMWflgdZdw/s400/IMG_7833.JPG" width="400" /></a><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MObW8DsGM04/VGOLhDhBNsI/AAAAAAAADaE/XvkatnNW74s/s1600/IMG_7832.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MObW8DsGM04/VGOLhDhBNsI/AAAAAAAADaE/XvkatnNW74s/s400/IMG_7832.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
This is such a quick Christmas Project! I think I'm going to make a few of these in the next few weeks. I have a booth at the <a href="http://nocoastcraft.com/nocoast/holiday-nocoast/">No Coast Holiday Craft-o-rama</a> this year (so excited!) -- and I'd like to have a few Christmas quilts completed by then to sell.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gXpc-QBLupE/VGOLjDz9w7I/AAAAAAAADaU/810yu1dTnxA/s1600/IMG_7836.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gXpc-QBLupE/VGOLjDz9w7I/AAAAAAAADaU/810yu1dTnxA/s400/IMG_7836.JPG" width="398" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
For this quilt, I used a Kate Spain 12 Days of Christmas jelly roll that I've had for a few years. I had to modify a few of the blocks, since I only had 2 1/2 inch strips to work with. And unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to find this fabric anymore -- so I can't make the sashing in coordinating fabric. What a dilemma! Lesson learned -- don't hoard fabric for too long! </div>
<div>

Here is my latest finished quilt, meow!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm calling it Modern Cats:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NGJGNWN88Ns/VFALjDVke9I/AAAAAAAADZQ/K81B9eE7THo/s1600/IMG_7751.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NGJGNWN88Ns/VFALjDVke9I/AAAAAAAADZQ/K81B9eE7THo/s1600/IMG_7751.jpg" height="398" width="400" /></a></div>
I've had a cat quilt in mind for a long time, ever since I saw <a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/10082365@N00/6323706354/">this one on Flickr.</a> October is my month to be the quilter for my <a href="http://www.stitchedincolor.com/2012/07/do-good.html">do. Good Stitches</a> circle, so I asked the other members to make cat blocks in bright solids or black and white prints. But then I just couldn't wait for all of the blocks to roll in, and decided to make a cat quilt of my own. For my cat quilt I actually used the tutorial for making a "basic cat" at <a href="http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2013/11/making-a-basic-cat-block.html">Oh, Fransson</a>, and then added wide white borders. It was a quick one to sew up -- I finished it in just a couple of days!<br />

<span style="font-size: large; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pg4W506GD6g/VEvIcGzVPKI/AAAAAAAADYI/ThGdAS_m6Dk/s1600/IMG_7706.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pg4W506GD6g/VEvIcGzVPKI/AAAAAAAADYI/ThGdAS_m6Dk/s1600/IMG_7706.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">As soon as school was out last June, my twins asked me what type of quilt we were going to make for the summer. They loved helping me put together the <a href="http://cityhousestudio.blogspot.com/2013/10/scrappy-squares-quilt.html">Scrappy Squares Quilt</a> last summer, and could hardly wait to start a new project.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ymyL8WRTLtE/VEvIli9Ed7I/AAAAAAAADYQ/vpX_a3gbFJ0/s1600/IMG_7564.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ymyL8WRTLtE/VEvIli9Ed7I/AAAAAAAADYQ/vpX_a3gbFJ0/s1600/IMG_7564.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> I made a sample block, and my girls designed the rest. They worked with my jar of 2 inch square scraps first, and then moved on to the 1.5 inch scraps (I did the sewing --they found it more fun to design blocks than sew -- actually sewing blocks will be my goal for them next summer). All the butterfly blocks are in rainbow order, with some completely scrappy, and some "symmetrical," as my girls like to say! I used a black and white dot print for the center stripe and the binding, and a white with black dots print for the backing.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AVJz9HfnkfA/VEvItlcxI0I/AAAAAAAADYY/mXTVElCXLyM/s1600/IMG_7663.jpg" height="398" width="400" /></span></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"> We took the quilt to my parent's house last weekend for a photo shoot, and wouldn't you know, in all of our photos the quilt is upside down. I can't believe that I didn't notice this!</span><br />

Here's a sneak peak of something I've been working on for the past two weeks:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OB5vFzw_Uzo/VCK_07LKu5I/AAAAAAAADXw/SPqxIOuj29I/s1600/IMG_7636.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OB5vFzw_Uzo/VCK_07LKu5I/AAAAAAAADXw/SPqxIOuj29I/s1600/IMG_7636.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's a really fun block, but complicated, too! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'll show more of it when <a href="http://dontcallmebetsy.com/">Elizabeth</a> releases the pattern, later this month.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I have a large collection of various Amy Butler dot fabrics,</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and am happy that I finally found something to do with them!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started a new project this week:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u9o2RxlU7RI/VCK_zl-jjYI/AAAAAAAADX0/C9_zBWXjxzg/s1600/IMG_7643.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-u9o2RxlU7RI/VCK_zl-jjYI/AAAAAAAADX0/C9_zBWXjxzg/s1600/IMG_7643.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In the midst of a complicated project, sometimes it's nice to make something that comes together quickly! This pattern is called Refreshingly Retro, from <a href="http://dontcallmebetsy.com/">Elizabeth's</a> book <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Becoming-Confident-Quilter-Techniques-Patterns/dp/1604682310/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1411564015&sr=8-1&keywords=becoming+a+confident+quilter">Becoming a Confident Quilter.</a> It's a fun twist on a nine patch, and quick and easy, too. I cut out all of my fabric yesterday AND finished four blocks. Hopefully I'll get the next eight done today?!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here's a sweet little quilt that I made over the summer:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FaGHk0DVpA0/VBhDnGmTRMI/AAAAAAAADWU/KhC_ZndZBSM/s1600/IMG_7577.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FaGHk0DVpA0/VBhDnGmTRMI/AAAAAAAADWU/KhC_ZndZBSM/s1600/IMG_7577.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m7pnOgUMhzs/VBhD0024kXI/AAAAAAAADWc/D0GocPnQViM/s1600/IMG_7581.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-m7pnOgUMhzs/VBhD0024kXI/AAAAAAAADWc/D0GocPnQViM/s1600/IMG_7581.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2zxJIEr2H9M/VBhD3B8a6fI/AAAAAAAADWk/LnOWsBagctk/s1600/IMG_7579.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2zxJIEr2H9M/VBhD3B8a6fI/AAAAAAAADWk/LnOWsBagctk/s1600/IMG_7579.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The pattern is from Rachel's (<a href="http://www.stitchedincolor.com/">Stitched in Color</a>) curves class that she taught online last year sometime. I made one during the class time, but was never completely happy with it, and always planned to make another. I love this one! Wouldn't these make fun Christmas gifts, too?!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This mini quilt measures about 18 inches square.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<span style="font-size: large;">made a few quilts and bee blocks,</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">spent lots of time on the water,</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">made a crafting table out of an old door,</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large; text-align: start;">fostered 2 litters of kittens (& only adopted 1!),</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">and celebrated a birthday.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">So much fun, I didn't want it to end.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I'll be back soon to write more about this summers' quilts!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #222222; line-height: 1.4;">This mini quilt uses the <a href="http://www.freequiltpatterns.info/free-new-york-beauty-quilt-along-block-4.htm">NYB block 4 template</a>, and </span><span style="color: #222222; line-height: 1.4;">some of my favorite </span><span style="color: #222222; line-height: 1.4;">Katie Jump Rope fabrics. </span><span style="color: #222222;"><span style="line-height: 1.4;">I absolutely love the KJR yellows! This quilt was definitely a challenge to piece, but fun, too. I loved seeing the tiny paper pieced sun's rays come together! And I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I had to make sure that all of those curves matched up really well before I was satisfied. I've seen NY Beauty blocks quilted in a variety of ways, but I'm really happy with how I chose to quilt it -- straight line rays in the middle, and circles that gradually widen around the edges. </span></span></span></div>
