What a great giveaway! I should make a library tote. I took my oldest two kids nearly every week for a few years, but since #3 we've gotten out of the habit. We went for the first time two weeks ago,
ReplyDeleteI love gardening! My favorite gloves are the Ethel brand. I've had them at least 6 years and they are still great.
I'm a total black thumb so you probably don't want any gardening tips from me. I hear compost is good though! :) Thanks for the giveaway, Michelle!
ReplyDeleteTake the time to clean up the beds in the fall or plant a cover crop rather than wait until it all starts growing again in the spring.
ReplyDeleteSomething strange happened to my gardening. My hub, Sasquatch, loves gardening. It became his hobby. When he retires, he wants a farm. I do all the buying and planning, he plants while I sew and check his progress.
ReplyDeleteYou wouldn't want any tips from me! My poor garden is in shambles at the moment. I hope to get it looking good again before too long!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute bag! I don't have any gardening tips yet as I'm just dipping my toe in the soil so to speak. I'm trying my hand at seeds this year and just need the rain to let up so I can get them in the ground!
ReplyDeleteI'm a librarian, so I would love to make this bag! I'm a terrible gardener, but I'm trying. The lady at the garden center gave me time release plant food sticks that you stick into your pot or under your plant. It lasts for 60 days. My fingers are crossed that they will work!
ReplyDeleteYou would not want a gardening tip from me, I manage to kill everything. I do support my local farmers at the farmer's market though.
ReplyDeleteI love my butterfly garden which also attracts hummingbirds. Plant coneflowers, bee balm, butterfly bush (milkweed), black-eyed susans to name a few and they will come!
ReplyDeleteI also love to read so thanks for the chance to win a wonderful give-away!
Earthworm castings are amazing for the garden:)
ReplyDeleteLet the water seep down in the ground befor adding more water.
ReplyDeletemelodyj(at)gmail(dot)com
My husband built us a compost bin and it is amazing what compost does for your garden--plus there's the added bonus of reusing all those food scraps instead of throwing them away.
ReplyDeleteDon't let the weeds grow as high as mine ;) Love this pattern. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI can't have a garden, so I have no tips. =( I'd love one though. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog. The reading bag is wonderful, my 9 year old granddaughter is an avid reader and she would love a bag like this to carry her library books back and forth to school. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love that tote! My gardening tip would be to compost. We've had a garden for 3 years now, and it's amazing how much better our soil is after only adding our homemade compost over these years.
ReplyDeleteThat tote is so cool! I'm not a good gardener at all, but I saw on The Chew that you should put something porous as the bottom layer for potted plants so they get good drainage. :}
ReplyDeleteOk, so I'm the worst person to ask when it comes to gardening tips. Instead of a green thumb, I've got a black thumb. Whatever I plant always ends up dying. So, sorry about that. But on a happy note. I literally just got a library card on Saturday and winning this tote pattern would be absolutely fabulous. I could totally borrow books in style!
ReplyDeletebuy good starter plants, the cheapo seeds don't give you good return
ReplyDeletemindingmomma(at)aol(dot)com
Hmmm...dead heading!!! Cut off those spent flowers lickety split and you'll get more flowers!!!
ReplyDeleteCute pattern!
I can't seem to get anything to grow so I don't have any gardening tips for you
ReplyDeleteI have no garden so am useless for the tips :)
ReplyDeleteMy best gardening tip is to stay out of my husband's way ... he's the green thumb of the family.
ReplyDeleteVery cute tote! You don't want gardening advice from me. My method is plant and pray that it grows! lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
Trust me...you DO NOT want any gardening tips from me. I have a brown thumb...LOL.
ReplyDeleteBTW...LOVE the bag!
Mix flowers with food plants -- we use strawberry plants as groundcover under our tulips and lavender. Rainbow chard is beautiful and super practical!
ReplyDeleteOh, my email is rlaventure(at)gmail.com
DeleteBeer keeps the slugs away!
ReplyDeleteI'm such a bad gardener! The best tip I would give myself: Keep It Small!
ReplyDeleteMe me me! I have been eyeing that pattern for months - I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a tip to give to you, I have a brown thumb. No talent at all when it comes to growing. But...do you use loofah sponges? You can grow them. My mom grows them every year. They grow on a vine, like cucumbers - you just have to dry them out before using them. Thanks for the chance.
Those are ate cutest bags. My daughters and I would be the coolest people in the library with on of those bags.
ReplyDeleteGardening is not my thing! I really like the bag though and I would love to win it.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to win this. My new gardening tip is laying down chicken wire in the garden bed and covering it with just a little dirt -- this keeps the cats out of the garden as they hate walking on chicken wire. Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy gardening tip is to let someone else do it! I have tried several unsuccessful times :) Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletewall o' water. my dad swears by it for all of his tomato plants - i'm trying them out for the first time this summer!
ReplyDeletebethbimber(at)gmail(dot)com
I'm very good at killing plants...but I have managed to keep my lucky bamboo alive! If you want an easy plant that doesn't need soil. All you do is put water in when it gets low. :-) Great pattern! LOVE the tote!
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't have a garden but I have potted flowers. Don't over water or they'll die!
ReplyDeletedazzlingshorty(at)yahoo(dot)com
I seem to have a brown thumb so I avoid gardening though I'd love to grow fresh produce. If I dared try I'd consult my gardening friends or look up tips for my area/climate.
ReplyDeleteLove this tutorial! Fertilize flowers in the spring. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI started gardening last Saturday, we have planted tomato and onion seeds for the moment. It is me who needs tips! Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteThis year we are trying a new raised bed. I think I will like it!
ReplyDeleteI love that bag! I am a total black thumb - sorry!! No tips from me :(
ReplyDeleteThis is an adorable bag! I love to read with my kids. But I don't garden so no tips there :)
ReplyDeleteHaving a herb and vege garden is very handy and companion planting is great idea too. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteOooo I love this tote!! Mostly because one of my clients is a librarian!! My favorite gardening tip is this: Build a fence lol. Some random dog just ran over my garden and it made me upset. Also, I like to plant pretty flowers inbetween shrubs so the green has color peeking in it. I love to garden!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the opportunity to win!
krenthom @ gmail . com
I've started a container garden this year and I was amazed at all the self watering pots. So much easier to fill up the resevior and not have to worry for a few days.
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern! My tip: Befriend a gardner. ;) Can't stand it myself, but am fortunate to have a few in my circle. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!
ReplyDeleteOkay, my favorite long term tip? Plan before planting. I take note of sun placement and soil type before even deciding what plants I want.
ReplyDeleteOther than that, if you have roses, pruning is huge and a soil mix of miracle grow, peat moss and sand will give you sound and healthy roses. About a 2:1:2 part ratio in that order. :)
Pouring worm 'pee' from a worm farm over your plants on a regular basis will keep the bugs away and make them really strong and healthy.
ReplyDeleteCute bag pattern. This would make lovely end of the year teacher gifts for my daughter's teachers.
My favorite gardening tip is one that I don't follow and thus have a hard time getting things to grow... remember to water regularly!
ReplyDeleteMy bookworm son would LOVE to have this tote. Thanks for the chance. Best gardening tip? Start tomato seeds later than you think. 6 weeks before last frost - many places start too early and the plants are too big when you set them out. This age plant yields more fruit and is healthier.
ReplyDeleteand my email is jessicafarwell(at)gmail(dot)com
DeleteI love this bag! The only thing I have successful grown is pumpkins! I love pumpkins make sure you pick a sunny spot but be able to provide shade. Some of our got scorched and we had to put up my stepdads old desert storm camo shade/tent thingy. It really helped and water early in the morning and later at night so the water doesnt just evaporate as soon as it hits the ground, this gives it a chance to actually get to the roots. That's about all I know. lol Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeletemrs(dot)hbraun(at)gmail(dot)com
I am a terrible gardener. Sorry. Um, sunlight and water? Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI like to use a piece of lattice to separate out what i plant so they dont grow in rows

ReplyDeleteI do not like to garden! I do however love love to read so I adore that bag!
ReplyDeleteWe just put in our in our first garden so I am going to read through all the tips above! I absolutely love this bag and pattern!
ReplyDeleteCute bag. Hmm, favorite gardening tip. Get you husband to tend the garden!lol! He's the gardener. I don't have time to sew as it now, so if I gardened, I definitely would not get to sew. Although I do enjoy eating fresh veggies out of the garden every year.
ReplyDeleteWell, I used to love to garden when I lived in the Midwest. So, my biggest garden tip is not to live in the SW lol.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother has the best luck planting tomato plants in big barrels that are split in half. She has a PVC pipe halfway buried, halfway sticking out of the dirt in order to water and fertilize. Last year she had over 200 tomatoes from one plant! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHere's one! If you want to keep the ground warm overnight (like for onions or other heat loving veggies) just take old plastic bottles (like 2 liter or even the smaller ones) fill halfway up with water and plant half to 2/3 of the way in the ground. During the day the bottlewill warm up and over night it will keep your baby veggies' roots warm. This is great for us in western WA state where it's cool in the summers.
ReplyDeleteI think that this bag was the first thing I ever pinned on Pinterest :) (And you definitely don't want garden advice from me. I can tell you how to attract pigeons, but that's about it!)
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to plant the seeds! (My reminder that I need to get lettuces in, which should be preceded by...Don't forget where you stashed this years seeds...ahem!)
ReplyDeleteLove your tote! Thanks for the chance.
What a gorgeous bag! Love it!
ReplyDeleteHmmm, gardening, now what advice can I share. My Pop always told me to put a banana peel at the bottom of your rose bushes. They love them. And he also used to empty the tea pot (leaves and all) into the vegie patch - not sure why but he had a thriving garden.
braydonandkel@bigpond.com
That's a fantastic bag!
ReplyDeleteGardening... my first and most important tip to follow is "water regularly", it helps, at least me. :-)
Thanks for the chance!

ReplyDeleteDon't let the weeds take over, it just makes the job so much harder in the long run! I am talking from experience LOL
ReplyDeleteLike the other posters, I love the tote. I'm not sure that I have a great gardening tip. But, if you have deer who like to come nibble, you can run fishing line about 1 ft off the ground around the garden. When their leg touches the clear line, they will not enter.
ReplyDeleteMy tip is regular dead heading (removing flowers past their bloom) so that the plants energy can go towards new buds instead of setting seeds!
ReplyDeleteBecause I have a black thumb, my best gardening tip is to not let me garden!
ReplyDeleteI just read about putting toy snakes in your garden to scare away the dumb squirrels and rabbits. I don't know if it works but I'm eager to try this year - defend the tomatoes!!

ReplyDeletedon't forget to water... =) seems basic but many plants have died at my hands for a lack of H2O!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a tip! I have never been able to grow anything, but I used to take good care of our potted basil. Water it every morning with filtered water and rotate it every hour if it's under the sun.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I plant my garden items in mounds so each line is able together sunlight much better. Thank you!!
ReplyDeletei don't have a garden, but really want one!!! so, i'm tip-less! :(

ReplyDeleteLeave pruning to a time when you need to release stress, it works fo rme every time! :)
ReplyDeleteCheck out a local university extension service for good, scientific, local advice. Most provide all sorts of free services that can really help. Clemson provides soil testing and a phone line you can call to get questions answered as well as all sorts of great information online.

ReplyDeleteI am trying to keep up with the garden at my new house. I am no expert, but I will say that if you don't keep the weeds under control to start with, you will pay with your back and knees! Thanks for the chance to win such a cute pattern!
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who told me when we bought our cottage to shred Irish Spring soap all over our garden to prevent the deer from eating it. Have to tell you it works but you have to remember to reshred it if you've had rain. Thanks for the chance I love the pattern.
ReplyDeletei don't garden - no yard! but this tote is adorable and would make a great gift for a friend. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the tote. You don't want gardening tips from me everything I plant tends to die.

ReplyDeleterelearning how to garden....after 55 years of gardening in the South, I am now in Montana....you can't plant tomatoes in April there!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite gardening tip is to use seawood solution to sew or transplanted plants, it helps them to get established & growing quickly. Thanks for the chance to win, I love this tote.
ReplyDeletemy gardening tip is- keep me out of your garden! The only things that I can keep alive are geraniums! also I am managing all right with parsley and thyme....I do like to plant things that I can eat- there is more incentive there. Also I am thinking of trying Kale so I can keep myself in Kale chips which I am addicted to!
ReplyDeletethanks for the chance! I love your tote!
mulch, mulch, mulch! At least once a year, twice is better. It improves the soil, fertilizes, and prevents evaporation of your precious water.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any gardening tips - I've killed everything I've ever tried to grow (except the rosemary, that's still hanging in there). My mums the same, so I guess we're just not a green thumbed family!
ReplyDeleteWe're in the midst of looking after our veggie patch at the moment, and we often get black fly on the beans. The best tip i can give for that is a dash of washing up liquid and lots of water in a squirter, then spraying the plants. Usually gets rid of black fly with in a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteIf you grow what likes your climate and soil rather than what looks nice in a show garden or magazine you will have much more success.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance to enter your giveaway. What a great bag. Gardening tip. If you do not compost you should.. Evertime you throw away pieces fo fruit and produce you are throwing away free fertilizer. Compost it and use it in your garden.
ReplyDeleteOh, I would love to make that adorable bag! I have the worst time trying to keep my garden alive, so I'll be looking through these comments to find some good tips for myself!
ReplyDeleteMy hint seems wierd, but it's what I'm doing this year. I'm taking daily walks around our yard, flower and vegetable beds. I'm enjoying watching the growing process. It makes me more aware of when to weed, water and "visit" with my plants:)
ReplyDeleteMy tip is epsom salts. You can buy them in the gardening section or the health/beauty section, but sprinkling them around your roses, vegetables, etc will help so much! It acts as both a pesticide and fertilizer. I tried it last summer and swear by my epsom salts!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute tote! I'm a kind of terrible gardener, so all of my tips are of the 'duh' variety (like 'don't plant your tomatoes too close together because when they get bigger you'll have a tomato jungle!')
ReplyDeleteI'd love to make one of these totes!
ReplyDeleteGardening tip?? accept all help that's offered!!
I love this! I would say, see if there's a place in the city that offers cheap compost!
ReplyDeleteOh no, I've lost already. :) A gardening tip...yikes...I can't get anything to grow...I managed to kill a small cactus. Um...I think my mom would say, water the garden early in the am, before the sun gets to hot. kerihag at yahoo dot com

ReplyDeleteI mean, what you say is important and everything.
However imagine if you added some great pictures or videos to
give your posts more, "pop"! Your content is excellent but with images
and clips, this site could undeniably be one of the most beneficial in its
niche. Awesome blog!
Here is my web site; Cheap Jerseys
I live in Alberta, Canada and our growing season is always pretty short. So my favorite tip is to opt for cherry tomato varieties instead of full size ones as you're more likely to get a good crop of ripe tomatoes before the weather turns. (experienced many summers with only green tomatoes)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win.
jgemeroy(at)gmail(dot)com
I don't garden but I would suggest that gardening and quilting do not go well together.
ReplyDeletetry to add as many different types of eadible plants when you have smalle childeren! plant herbs, grow berries or put up an apple tree! this way childeren will learn where all these lovely things come from...
ReplyDeleteI love to garden. My favorite tip is to get the kids involved. If they help to grow it, they will eat it. Last year, my kids gorged themselves on strawberries and tomatoes from the garden.
ReplyDeleteThis year, my boys will have their own individual plots, along with my main plot. My oldest boy will be growing, at his choosing, watermelon, pumpkins, beans, strawberries, yellow pear tomatoes, a few other smaller tomato varieties and maybe more. My youngest boy will have his own strawberry patch, along with some beans.
My daughter is only 2 1/2 but she wants to grow lots and lots of flowers, so I got her a bunch of seeds to sow in pots.

Gardening tip - keep your egg shells at every chance and crush them and sprinkle them around your plants and it will prevent the slugs from slugging their way to eat the pants! Wonderful pattern - fingers crossed!!!
ReplyDeleteuse super strong, tall poles for tomatoes - they'll grow as high as you let them!
ReplyDeleteI gave up on traditional gardening and went to the "square foot garden" method -- I love it! And I built a cage for the garden to keep out the deer (it's in the book by Mel Bartholomew).
ReplyDeleteI love the tote. I think mushroom soil and compost are the magic ingredients to gardening.
ReplyDeleteI don't vegetable garden, but I do have flower beds. Mulching helps keep the weeds at a minimum.
ReplyDeleteThis is an easy question! Stay as far away from the garden as I can so that nothing dies from me touching it. A brown thumb is not quite me...probably I rate a black thumb!
ReplyDeleteI love your tote and would love to win it.
I would say to be careful where you plant herbs such as mint, rosemary, and chives as they will take over! Thanks for the giveaway! Amy @ gasudimack(at)sbcglobal(dot)net
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty awful at gardening so I don't have a tip for you. Sorry! I do love that tote though.
ReplyDeletealways remember to dead head, you get more blooms that way. been looking for a pattern like yours its a nice size.

ReplyDeleteI LOOOVE that bag!! So cool! Hmmm.... I wish I could give you a tip, but my green thumb has yet to sprout! :(
ReplyDeleteepsom salts for high veggie yields!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic tote bag! I'm seeing a lot more trips to the library with it. Gardening tip: make sure you pair species that grow well together. i.e. some veggies or herbs grow better with others and will actually encourage the growth of each other.
ReplyDeleteI have a little cupboard outside our back door. The drawer holds gardening tools and gloves, and in the door part underneath are sprays, fertilisers, snail bait and "outside" shoes. It's very convenient for quick garden maintenance.
ReplyDeleteI'm just a balcony gardener :-) but my mum says that wine bottle corks are great for covering up the soil in containers to keep the weeds out!
ReplyDeletesince I have two black thumbs my gardening tip is don't do it...LOL...Thanks for the chance!

Instead of splurging on weed block fabric that you put under mulch... Just use newspaper and get it wet... It's like a giant paper Mache. Thank you for the Giveaway!
ReplyDeleteToday, I went to the beach front with my kids.
ReplyDeleteI found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She placed the shell to
her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to
tell someone!

Make sure you pinch the little sprouts on the tomato plants -- slows down the bigger branches!
ReplyDeleteTo make it easier in the Spring, after raking in the Fall, put down newspaper & or heavy cardboard layers. Weight them down with rocks or something so they won't blow away. In the Spring, the grass and weed and whatever was growing in that spot will have died. Saves having to dig out a lot of unwanted growth.

Favourite tip-let the kids help! They'll be muddy and exhausted when they're done, but as they get older they'll love gardening too! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if this is a favorite tip, but it is the best tip I have to offer....don't let me touch your plant if you want it to live. Thanks for the lovely giveaway!
ReplyDeleteIf you water your plant, wait an hour after you get the water from the faucet, so the chlorine/chemicals can evaporate before you pour it on the plant. My daughter just took Horticulture and told me that one.

ReplyDeleteDon't plant tender annuals too early (ask me how I know). Thanks for the giveaway chance!
ReplyDeleteMy children's paternal great grandmother stayed with us for a few months one summer. She told me that you should always smile (be happy) when you plant because it encourages the plants/seeds. I have found this is true and the reverse is true so I always think of something happy before I start. thank you
ReplyDeleteI am a teacher & would love to have this pattern!! I like to garden with my mom, she is more of a green thumb than I am. We live over 1,000 miles apart now so we dont garden together anymore :( The only tip that I can remember that she taught me is to split the roots of a plant before you put it in the ground. I want to start my own flower & herb garden when I have my own land to do it on. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteYes! Finally someone writes about hmong.
