Paper Piecing Saves this Farmer's Wife

I had almost given up on the Farmer's Wife Quilt Along.
I had 8 blocks done, and wasn't enjoying it.
But I really wanted to finish this quilt,
because I had planned to make 90 blocks for a quilt
for my Grandma's 90th Birthday.
Then I started reading on various blogs about how some people had started paper piecing their blocks . . . . so I joined the Yahoo group (to have access to the paper piecing templates) . . . and made 3 blocks in one morning . . . and it was fun again!
And the blocks turned out perfectly . . . hooray!

My first 3 paper pieced blocks
It's definitely more fun to choose blocks randomly, so this is what I'll be doing for the remainder of the quilt along.  There is a printable list of blocks with checkboxes on Yahoo groups, too, so this is how I'm keeping track of which ones I've made.
Block #109, Windows

Block #77, Seasons
Block #66, Periwinkle
Block #108, Windmill

I'm completely in love with this quilt along (again)!

  1. That's looking fab, your grandma will love it! I think I'm going to tackle a quilt for my gran for Christmas, and my granny for her birthday next May, that might leave me enough time to make them!

  8. Beautiful blocks! I'm glad you found a method to make them easier and fun. I've yet to try paper piecing, but see it in my near future as I make more complex quilts. :)

  13. I joined the yahoo group for the same reason, but became frustrated that all posts are moderated and mine never appeared. So, dropped that group, but not until I got the paperpieced patterns. Your blocks look great!
