From Start to Finish . . .

In less than 3 days!

Inspiration struck Thursday morning,
and I starting laying out HSTs.
(HSTs are Moda's Arcadia fabric)
Thursday night I stayed up late trimming blocks.
During the day on Friday I sewed the quilt top together.
After the kids were in bed Friday night,
I added Kona Ivory for the borders,
pin basted the quilt, and marked it for quilting.
I used my Pilot Frixion pen
to mark 3 1/2 in squares in the solid border,
to match the 3 1/2 inch HSTs.
Whew!
Went to bed at midnight (or a little after)!
Started quilting at 7am Saturday morning,
after Holly woke me up.
Finished the quilting Saturday afternoon,
while the girls colored this masterpiece:
Art Print to color yourself, found on Etsy
I sewed the binding on by hand on Saturday night,
since by then I was pretty tired of sitting in front of my sewing machine!
Finished at 11:18pm.

Sunday morning photos:
52" x 58"
I free motion quilted "orange peels,"
using this tutorial by the lovely QuiltyGirl.
The backing is the Katie Jump Rope orange dots,
so soft and cozy!

Zakka Style

Project #3, Pincushion
What a cute little project this was!
It would be fun to make these as gifts for sewing friends!

Project #1, Tote

For the quilting I used the triple stitch on my old Elna sewing machine -- I think it makes the stitches almost look like hand embroidery!  I had read on someone's blog (can't remember who!) about how they used a double stitch to finish off bags, and how it gives the bag a more professional look.  My machine doesn't have a double stitch, but I'm  happy to have found it's triple stitch.  It takes awhile, but I love the look!
Fabrics are Katie Jump Rope scraps,
leftover from my Swoon quilt
 (which is still not finished)!
This has been a really fun sew-along, so far.
I'd definitely recommend the book,

Works in Progress, 4/18/12

I found this little treasure from
the Doll Quilt Swap 12
in my mailbox last week!
Isn't Whitney amazing?!
It's so cute!

Zig Zag tote, from Zakka Style
(leftover triangles from some Swoon blocks --
I've yet to finish my Swoon quilt!)
2 more Retro Flowers blocks, for a total of 6.
I just love these!
And I finally finished up my Color Wheel Quilt --
pattern available at
Still undecided how to quilt this one--
any suggestions?!?!

Works in Progress, 4/11/12

This past week has been fun!
First, I finished up the girls' Easter Capes,
just in time for the egg hunt.
(read more here)
I made another Swoon block (below),
to go with the first one I made last fall.
I'm planning to make 2 more,
to make this into a wall hanging for my sewing room.

New York Beauty quilt, (block 4)
ready for quilting!
The front of my Zig Zag tote needs quilting, too!
It's time to dig out my walking foot and get going!

Happy Easter!

Holly (early riser), Tallulah (furry pest), and I finished up
two cozy Easter capes early Saturday morning.
I used the Little Red Riding Hood pattern
from the Oliver & S book Little Things to Sew.
These cute little capes were just perfect
for our Easter egg hunt,
in April, in Minnesota
(it was in the 50s, and we were thankful)!

I lined the inside of the capes with cozy minky dots,
super warm and snuggly!
I enough left-over minky to make these cute little bunnies!
(tutorial here)

Hoods up!
I added ric-rack to the hoods,
just to dress it up a bit!

I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend!
